Clinical Management of The Rock Climber – Golden, Colorado

This continuing education course is designed to teach physical therapists the clinical and laboratory skills necessary to effectively treat rock climbers. The course covers the biomechanics of rock climbing and the common injuries and conditions that climbers experience, as well as assessment techniques, treatment options, and sport-specific training techniques. Upon completion, physical therapists will have the skills and knowledge necessary to assess climbers’ physical abilities, identify areas of weakness or imbalance, and develop comprehensive treatment plans to help climbers overcome their injuries and improve their performance. Instructors

Jared Vagy PT, DPT, OCS, CSCS is a doctor of physical therapy with a focus on treating rock climbing injuries. In addition to his doctoral degree, he has completed a one-year residency in orthopedics and a one-year fellowship in movement science. He is the author of the Amazon #1 best-seller “Climb Injury-Free,” has published numerous articles on injury prevention and lectures on the topic internationally. Dr. Vagy is on the teaching faculty at the University of Southern California, one of the top doctor of physical therapy programs in the United States. He is a board-certified orthopedic clinical specialist and a certified strength and conditioning specialist. He is passionate about climbing and enjoys working with climbers of all ability levels, ranging from novice climbers to the top professional climbers in the world.

Kevin Cowell PT, DPT, OCS, CSCS, FAAOMPT, Dip. Osteopractic earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy from Regis University. He has undergone extensive post-doctorate training and is a Board-Certified Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) and Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapist (FAAOMPT) who has received his Diploma in Osteopractic and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). Dr. Cowell is passionate about educational programs for students and travels across the country to assist at courses teaching dry needling (Cert. DN), ultrasound-guided dry needling, spinal manipulation (Cert. SMT), extremity manipulation (Cert. EMT), and performance rehab and strength training. Dr. Kevin Cowell has worked national & international climbing events with the IFSC & USAC. He specializes in treating climbing & sport-related injuries from flexor pulley injuries, rotator cuff tendinopathy, cervical nerve impingement, low back pain, lateral epicondylopathy, & more. He is the lead physical therapist for the CU Climbing Team & DU Climbing Team.
